Price of 12kg LPG cylinder hiked by Tk41

The price of 12kg liquefied natural gas (LPG) has been increased by Tk41 at the consumer level. The new price has been fixed at Tk1,474 from Tk1,433.

The new price will come into effect from Sunday evening, according to the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC).

With this, LPG retail price has increased for the seventh time in a row.

According to BERC's announcement on Sunday, the price of private LPG at retail points has been adjusted to Tk122.83 per kg.

In January, BERC increased the price of a 12kg cylinder from Tk1,404 to Tk1,433.

In December, BERC increased the price of a 12kg cylinder from Tk1,381 to Tk1,404.

Earlier, the regulatory body increased the price of 12kg LPG cylinders by Tk18 to Tk1,381 for the month of November.

In October, the cost of a 12kg Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinder was hiked by Tk79 for consumers while Tk107.01 per kg in September, Tk141 in August.

In July, the price of a 12kg cylinder experienced a significant reduction, reaching its lowest point. The cost dropped by Tk75, decreasing from Tk1,074 to Tk999. Preceding this, in the previous month, the price had also seen a notable decrease of Tk161, going from Tk1,235 to Tk1,074. Before these reductions, there was an increment of Tk57 in May, raising the price from Tk1,178 to Tk1,235.

In April, the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) slashed the price of a 12kg LPG cylinder from Tk1,422 to Tk1,178, marking a reduction of Tk244. Furthermore, in March, BERC had brought down the price from Tk1,498 to Tk1,422, reflecting a decrease of Tk76. In February, there was an increase in the price of a 12kg LPG cylinder, rising from Tk1,232 to Tk1,498.

BERC sets the price of private companies' bottled LPG in line with Saudi Arabia's Aramco's contract prices of propane and butane, the main ingredients of LPG.

Bangladesh's annual LPG consumption is about 1.48 million tons, with households accounting for about 84% of the consumption. Around 99% of the market is dominated by 29 private companies.
