12kg LPG cylinder price drops by Tk75

The Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has reduced the price of a 12kg cylinder of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) sold by private operators by Tk75.

A retail consumer will get it now at Tk999 instead of Tk1,074 (including VAT).

Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) announced the new rates on Monday.

The new prices will be effective from Monday evening.

It was informed in the press conference that BERC has fixed the retail price of LPG at Tk83.21 per kg and the price of LPG supplied to households in liquid form in the reticulated system will be Tk79.98 including VAT. 

Meanwhile, the prices of five and a half kg, 12, 15, 16, 18, 20, 25, 30, 35 and 45 kg cylinders have come down as well. 

Accordingly, the price of 12 and a half kg cylinder has been set at Tk1,400, 15 kg cylinder at Tk1,248, 16 kg cylinder at Tk1,331, 18 kg cylinder at Tk1,498, 20 kg cylinder at Tk1,664, 22 kg cylinder at Tk1831 and the price of 25 kg cylinder is fixed at Tk2,080.

Apart from LPG, the price of autogas used in cars has also come down. The price of autogas per litre has been fixed at Tk46.59.

On June 1, there was a significant reduction in the price of LPG (liquefied petroleum gas). The price per kg decreased by Tk13.42, bringing it down to Tk89.48 from the previous price of Tk102.9. 

Additionally, BERC had made an adjustment to the retail price of LPG, reducing it from Tk1,235 to Tk1,074 per 12kg cylinder.

Before that, the price of every 12 kg cylinder was increased by Tk57 from Tk1,178 to Tk1,235 in May.

In April, BERC had reduced the price of a 12 kg LPG cylinder from Tk1,422 to Tk1,178 by Tk244. 

In March, BERC had reduced the price of a 12 kg LPG cylinder from Tk1,498 to Tk1,422 by Tk76. 

In February, LPG 12 kg cylinder gas price was increased from Tk1,232 to Tk1,498.

BERC sets the price of private companies' bottled LPG in line with Saudi Arabia's Aramco's contract prices of propane and butane, the main ingredients of LPG.

Bangladesh's annual LPG consumption is about 1.42 million tons, with households accounting for about 84% of the consumption. Around 99% of the market is dominated by 29 private companies.
