The third level DST (Drill Stem Test) test began on Monday in the new well named Ilisha-1 of Bhola Sadar upazila.
The new gas well is expected to produce 20 million cubic feet of gas per day and has reserves of 200 BCF or more.
The test of gas extraction began by lighting a fire at a depth of 3,250 to 3,254 meters at 7am.
Under the supervision of Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company (Bapex), the Russian company Gazprom is working on the project.
Bapex had started experimental gas exploration from the ninth well of the Ilisha-1 gas field in Bhola an April 28, 2023.
The exploration was officially inaugurated under the management of Gazprom, a Russian majority state-owned multinational energy corporation.
On March 9, Bapex started drilling in the Ilisha-1 well which was successfully completed on April 24 through DST (Drill Stem State) at three levels.
Earlier, the government said that gas distribution from Bhola to Khulna via Barisal will also start in May or June in the form of CNG.
The government will supply this gas to industrial establishments, according to sources. This will bring some relief to the industrial factories of Dhaka, Gazipur and Narayanganj.
