Following the dissipation of Cyclone Mocha, two foreign ships carrying liquid petroleum gas (LPG) have finally made their entry into the Mongla Port in Bagerhat.
The ships docked at the port at 9am on Monday.
Mongla Port Authority Harbour Master Captain Mohammed Shaheen Majeed informed that due to the effects of Cyclone Mocha, local warning signal no four (4) was issued at the port which prevented the two ships from anchoring. To avoid danger, the ships were stationed at Hiran Point, outside the port area.
After the cyclone passed, all warnings were lifted by the Met office. As a result, the Vietnam-flagged Oceans-9 and the Marshall Islands-flagged Eco Galaxy have entered the port and started unloading their cargo, said Majeed.
Oceans-9 is unloading its gas at Jamuna LPG terminal in the port area, while Eco Galaxy is delivering its gas to Petromax LPG terminal he said adding that the two ships are expected to leave Mongla Port on Tuesday morning.
Mohammed Shaheen Majeed further said that the loading and unloading of goods from other ships at the port are continuing normally.
The four navy and coast guard ships that had taken shelter safely have also left the jetty and returned to their destinations, added the official.
