State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid laid emphasis on ensuring uninterrupted power supply, improvement of service and promptness in providing connections to become a middle-income nation.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the Palli Biddyut Samitygeneral managers' conference organised by the Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) in Dhaka on Saturday, said a press release.
Suggesting that transformers be installed under multistorey buildings, the state minister, however, said irregularities while providing connections reduced significantly, but the malpractice is still persistent.
He urged the BERB authorities to ensure more transparency for new power connections, saying prepaid metres would be introduced for the consumers soon.
The junior minister also asked the general managers to cut system loss in a year.
Power Division Secretary Ahmad Kaikaus, Power Cell Director General Mohammad Hossain and BREB Chairman Maj Gen Moin Uddin, among others, addressed the programme.
