Khagrachhari district is being connected with the national grid through a newly built high voltage substation of 132kV capacity.
The sub-station was supposed to start operation on Tuesday. But it might take three or four more days, said Abu Zafar, executive engineer of Khagrachhari Power Distribution Division.
“We will start operation by Thursday or Friday after finishing some more work,” he said.
Sources at Power Division said work on the 80-km new line began in June 2015 to improve power supply capacity in Khagrachhari and Longodu and Baghaichhari upzilas in Rangamati.
The Tk400 crore project was supposed to be completed in two years, but took an additional year.
Khagrachhari Parbatya Zila Parishad Chairman Kongjori Chowdhury said the substation was built as part of an election pledge by the ruling Awami League and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The prime minister inaugurated the work during a public rally in the hill district of Khagrachhari on November 11, 2013.
