Robert Gibson, the British High Commissioner to Bangladesh, has called on all parties to fully consider the effects of their actions and resists from causing damage to the country’s national interest.
The British envoy made the call in a press briefing just after an hour long one-on-one meeting with BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia at her Gulshan office on Wednesday evening.
"I have taken the opportunity this evening to offer my personal sympathies to the honourable chairperson over the loss of her son," he said.
“As I have said before the extent of the current violence and disruption to the lives and all people in Bangladesh is distressing and deplorable.”
“I also urged all parties to consider confidence building measures that would defuse the current tension in the country and allow normal life to resume,” the envoy said.
Earlier, the British high commissioner issued a statement on Feb 5 on the ‘detrimental effect’ of the violence on children’s education and Bangladesh’s economy.
