BNP Special Secretary Nadim placed on remand

A Dhaka court yesterday granted a four-day remand against BNP Central Committee Special Secretary Advocate Md Nadim Mostafa – who was arrested earlier in the day – in a case filed for blasting crude bombs in the capital’s Gulshan area.

Metropolitan Magistrate Md Asaduzzaman Noor passed the order when Sub-Inspector Md Abdul Barik of Gulshan police station produced Nadim – the BNP’s Rajshahi district unit president – before the court seeking a 10-day remand.

Meanwhile, defence counsel Md Sanaullah Miah filed a petition seeking bail for his client in the case; but it was rejected by the court.

In the early hours of yesterday, Rapid Action Battalion and the Detective Branch of police picked up Nadim from his Gulshan residence.

On January 13, another metropolitan magistrate placed six leaders of the 20-party alliance on a different term of remand in the same case. All were arrested on January 12 from different parts of the capital and shown arrested in the same case.

ASI Md Rafiz Uddin Ahmed filed the case with Gulshan police station mentioning 15 BNP-led alliance men and 15 to 20 other unknown people’s names on charges of blasting five crude bombs in front of a house on road 16 in Gulshan on January 12.
