A Chittagong court has issued an arrest warrant against former Post and Telecommunications minister Abdul Latif Siddique in four cases filed for hurting religious sentiments and making derogatory comments on hajj and tabligh jamaat recently.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Moshiur Rahman passed the order as the accused did not appear before it as per its summons by yesterday.
Lawyer Kamrul Islam Sazzad, who represented the plaintiffs, said: “The court issued the arrest warrant after a hearing as the accused did not appear before it by the deadline.”
On Tuesday, a Dhaka court issued an arrest warrant against him for not appearing before it as per its summons.
Latif made his controversial comments while addressing a reception arranged by the Tangail expatriates in New York, USA on September 28, protesting which Islamists staged protests across the country.
On October 12, the government sacked him as the post and telecommunications minister. The same day, he was relieved of the ruling Awami League’s presidium membership.
