The BNP yesterday alleged that a conspiracy to erase the name of party founder late president Ziaur Rahman from the minds of people has been going on.
But the Awami League will never ever be successful in its attempt to do so, said Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, acting secretary general of the BNP.
“From the very beginning the conspiracy has been in place to demean Ziaur Rahman. The killers believed that the ideology of Zia will die with his killing.”
Thirty three years have passed but no one has been able to obliterate his name from the minds of people, said Fakhrul.
He was addressing a discussion at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh to mark the party founder ZiaurRahman’s 33rd death anniversary.
Fakhrul said a conspiracy was still going on against Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman to keep them away from politics.
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia attended the programme and was seated with the audience. She listened to the speeches made by the leaders and activists.
Fakhrul, referring to first prime minister of Bangladesh Tajuddin Ahmed’s daughter Sharmin Ahmed’s book, said: “It was proved that Ziaur Rahman proclaimed independence. People of the country do not believe in Awami League’s falsehood.”
The spokesperson of the party hinted that the solution would come through movement if the government does not hold elections under a non-partisan interim government.
Taking part in the discussion Bikalpadhara Bangladesh President and the founding secretary general of the BNP AQM Baddrudoza Chowdhury said Ziaur Rahman is the part of the history and it would not be possible to erase him from the history through falsehood.
“It is nothing but a failed attempt by the Awami League,” he said asking the BNP leaders and activists to follow Zia’s philosophy.
Terming Zia the successful reformer of the country, Baddrudoza Chowdhury said those who stigmatised Zia are the enemy of independence and history of the country.
