Rafiur Rabbi collects nomination paper

Rafiur Rabbi, father of murdered Tanvir Mohammad Towki, has collected nomination paper on Wednesday, the first day of nomination paper collection, to contest in Narayanganj-5 by-polls.

He collected nomination paper from district election office at Narayanganj core complex building around 11am.

Assistant Election Officer Takdir Ahmed delivered the nomination paper.

AB Siddique and Abdur Rahman, president and secretary of Narayanganj Nagarik Committee respectively, Hafizul Islam, president of Communist Party, Narayanganj unit, and Torikul Sujon, convenor of Ganasanghati Andolon, Narayanganj unit accompanied Rabbi.

While talking to the Dhaka Tribune, Rabbi said: “I am participating in the by-election as a protest against abduction, murder and terrorism in the district.”

Narayanganj-5 constituency fell vacant following the death of Jatiya Party lawmaker Nasim Osman on April 30.

The by-election of Narayanganj-5 constituency will be held on June 26.

Rafiur Rabbi’s son Tanvir Mohammad Towki, was found dead on the bank of the Shitalakhya River on March 8 last year, two days after he had disappeared.

Since the death of Towki, Rafiur has been accusing ruling Awami League lawmaker Shamim Osman for the killing.
