BCL leader, Jubo Dal man killed as two groups clash

A leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League and an activist of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal were killed in a gunfight between two groups in Sadar upazila yesterday.

Abu Noman, vice-president of Chandraganj union unit of Chhatra League and son of Abu Sufian of Bhairabnagar village, died from firearm shot during a clash between his group and a group of Jubo Dal.

Six men, including Jahangir Alam, an activist of Jubo Dal and son of Chowdhury Mia of Panchpara village of the upazila, received bullets during the clash. Jahangir succumbed to his injuries on the way to a Noakhali hospital.

Police said an altercation took place between the two groups over establishing supremacy in the area and the clash ensued around 8pm. Gunshots were fired during the clash.

The injured were taken to different hospitals in Lakshmipur and Noakhali.

Iqbal Hossain, officer-in-charge of Lakshmipur Sadar police station, confirmed the incident and said the body of Noman was recovered from the spot and was sent to Sadar hospital morgue for post-mortem examinations.
