Maya demands trial of Narayanganj 7 murders

Disaster Management and Relief Minister Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya yesterday demanded arrest and trial of the suspected accused in the Narayanganj seven murder case reiterating that his family members were not involved in it.

The minister also assured the authorities concerned of all-out support in probing the incident.

Maya expressed his intension while talking to the media in his ministry office at the Secretariat.

Narayanganj City Corporation ward councillor Nazrul Islam and senior lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarker along with five others were abducted on April 27. Their bodies were recovered from the Shitalakkhya River after three days.

Nazrul’s father-in-law Shahidul blamed RAB 11 officials for the abductions and murders in exchange for Tk6 crore. Dismissed RAB 11 commanding officer Tarek Sayeed is Maya’s son-in-law.

“I also want their trial and punishment with the people of the country. Everyone should be arrested no matter whoever they might be. I want to help the probe, if needed,” he said. “I should not say more than that as it is under investigation.”

When asked if he would resign for the involvement of his family members in the killing Maya, also general secretary of the Awami League’s Dhaka city unit, left his seat without making any comment.

Earlier in a media statement, the minister ruled out the possibility of the involvement of his family members in the murders.
