A woman died and at least 30 others sustained injuries in an Awami League factional clash over the establishment of supremacy at the Saltha Upazila in Faridpur.
The clash occurred between followers of two local Awami League leaders, Habibur Rahman and Selim Molla, at around 8am on Thursday, said witnesses.
Kuti Khatun, 55, went to save her son who was attacked by the rivals and in the process, was critically injured at 12 noon, said Saltha police station Officer-In-Charge Tota Mia, quoting the witnesses.
She died soon after being rushed to the Faridpur Medical College Hospital, he said.
Besides this, at least 30 others were injured in the clash that lasted until about 1:30pm. They received treatment at the local hospitals, he added.
Tota Mia said they used 51 rounds of shotgun bullets and 12 tear gas canisters to control the situation.
