Natore Jamaat, Shibir chiefs sent to jail

A Natore court has sent the Ameer of district unit Jamaat-e-Islami and president of the party's student wing, Chhatra Shibir to jail in a case filed for attacking the law enforcers.

The arrestees are Jamaat ameer Professor Yunus Ali and Shibir President Alamgir Hossain.

Natore Chief Judicial Magistrate Israt Jahan Munni passed the order on Wednesday afternoon, rejecting the bail pleas of the accused.

Earlier on April 21, 2013, the leaders and activists of the party brought out a procession demanding release of top Jamaat leaders. At one stage of parade, they locked into a clash with police, as police foiled the procession, leaving at least 26 people injured.

Of the injured, two were police members.

Later, the police filed a case accusing 200 Jamaat-Shibir men, including the Jamaat and Shibir chiefs.
