Law minister: Khaleda does not believe in Bangladesh

Law Minister Anisul Huq yesterday said BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia does not believe in Bangladesh. Castigating her recent claim that Ziaur Rahman is the first president of Bangladesh, the minister said: “I would say her claim is void of sense.”

“If I only say she has distorted the history it would be much less than she deserves. Being the chairperson of a party she cannot speak like that,” said Anisul Huq.

He was talking to reporters after a launching ceremony of the book Leading Judgments on human trafficking at Spectra Convention Centre in the city.

International Organisation for Migration (IOM), Dhaka organised the launching ceremony. Justice Naima Haider and Chief of Mission of the IOM Sarat Das, among others, attended the function.

Speaking on human trafficking, Anisul Huq said the government enacted a law on human trafficking in 2012.

He said trafficking is a serious offence as the victims of trafficking lose everything including his/her self-confidence.

“It is the government’s commitment to bring the offenders to book and if we can ensure exemplary punishment offences can be curbed,” the minister said adding that the compilation of the judgments on trafficking will work as a guide.
