A faction of Jatiya Party led by Kazi Zafar Ahmed yesterday expressed solidarity with the 18-party opposition-called “March for Democracy” programme scheduled for 29 December.
The faction took the decision to support the agitation programme of the main opposition at a meeting with JaPa Chief Kazi Zafar Ahmed in the chair.
A total of 27 presidium members out of 29 of the party attended the meeting held at a city hotel.
The meeting discussed several issues, including joining the opposition anti-government movement.
The meeting announced the names of conveners for the committees of seven divisions.
The conveners are TIM Fazle Rabbi for Rangpur division committee, Brigadier General (rtd) Mahmud Hassan for Dhaka division, Mustafa Zamal Hayder for Barisal division, HM Gulam Reza for Khulna division, Lutfur Rahman Helal for Sylhet division and Mostak Ahmed Labu for Rajshahi division.
The party’s next meeting will be held on December 30. The party will take decision on its next course of action at the meeting.
The meeting insiders told the Dhaka Tribune “morally” the party agreed to joint the movement of 18-party alliance.
