Police and Rab personnel on Wednesday evening surrounded Jatiya Party head HM Ershad's residence in Baridhara.
They however dismissed rumors that they were present there to arrest the former military ruler.
The law enforcers claimed they were present in order to beef up security facilities near Ershad's residence President Park in the diplomatic zone in the capital.
CEO of Rab-1 in Diplomatic zone, Lieutenant Connell Kiswat Hayat, told the Dhaka Tribune: "We don't have any directives to arrest Ershad."
“We have deployed more law enforcers in order to increase the security of Ershad,” he added.
Rumors of his possible arrest rose earlier on Wednesday when law enforcers beefed up security outside his house, soon after he ordered all his concerned party subordinates to withdraw their nomination for the upcoming elections.
The order was issued in a press release, coming a day after Ershad announced his withdrawal from the 10th general elections to be held in January.
The authority has eased the security in front of Ershad's house around 9pm.
However, an incumbent minister from this party, Anisul Islam Mahmud, said the decision was of Ershad alone and not the party's.
Jatiya Party Chairman Hussain Muhammad Ershad has ordered all his concerned party subordinates to withdraw their nomination for the January 5 elections.
The order was issued in a press release, signed by acting office secretary and Presidium Member Mohammad Tajul Islam Chowdhury, Wednesday morning.
The statement comes a day after HM Ershad announced his withdrawal from the 10th general elections to be held in January.

“We have told the prime minister that we will try to convince HM Ershad to participate in the polls,” he had told Dhaka Tribune late Tuesday night.
