A “Ganantra Mancha” would be set up in the port city Chittagong to oust the ruling Awami League government, Vice-Chairman of the BNP Abdullah Al Noman said on Tuesday.
Addressing a protest rally as the chief guest in the port city, the BNP vice-chairman made the warning.
The rally was organised by Chittagong unit Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal, protesting the ban on any kind of gathering, rally or procession in the capital by Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
The vice-chairman also said the mancha would be set up in front of their port city’s central office if the Awami League government did not fulfil their demands.
After October 25, the people would control the country, he said, adding that they would take to the streets until the government was ousted.
Meanwhile, Mir Mohammad Nasir Uddin, adviser of the BNP chairperson, said they would not take part in any election without a caretaker government and no election would be held without the BNP.
Speakers at the rally also protested the politically motivated arrests of its leaders-activists from their residences without any charge.
Several hundreds of BNP activists joined the rally and a protest procession was brought out from the intersection following the rally that marched different important roads of the city before ending in front of the Shaheed Minar around 5:30pm.
Chittagong city unit BNP General Secretary Dr Shahadat Hossain also addressed the rally as special guest.
