Hasina wants polls without BNP: Fakhrul

BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the intention of the government is to hold an election without the main opposition.

Talking to the media at the party's Nayapaltan headquarters Friday morning, he said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was speaking differently at different occasions.

“This shows that she is not being sincere about dialogues, she is confusing people,” he said adding that the motive was to hold an election without the BNP.

Fakhrul said BNP have so far consciously avoided inciting any violence for their demand of a non-partisan caretaker government.

He also accused law enforcers of not allowing entry to the party's Nayapaltan headquarters on Thursday.

Earlier, BNP declared a rally for October 25 from which any future programmes would be rolled out.

The caretaker government provision was erased from the constitution through the 15th amendment. Therefore, an election now has to be held under an elected government.
