BNP Secretary General and LGRD Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said on Monday that the government has not approved the reopening of Awami League offices across the country.
Following the 13th National Parliamentary Election, Awami League offices, previously banned from functioning in various areas, have been reopened by party leaders and activists.
Speaking to journalists at BNP’s central office in Nayapaltan, Dhaka, Fakhrul said: “There is no government approval for opening Awami League offices nationwide. Since their activities are temporarily banned by law, we did not seek this. We hope the relevant government departments will look into the matter.”
He added: “Considering the overall situation, public support for Tarique Rahman will continue. Under his leadership, the people of Bangladesh are envisioning a new Bangladesh. We hope the party and the government will be well-organized and successful under his leadership.”
Recalling former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia, Fakhrul sai:, “Many programs were carried out with madam in this office. I pray for her soul’s forgiveness.”
He also noted that the role of journalists in restoring democracy will be recorded in history. On the local government elections, he said: “The ministry has certain procedures. The election will take place after completing them. Nominations will be given to women associated with the party.”
