Dr Zubaida Rahman, wife of BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman, on Wednesday said she hopes the party will build an equitable, knowledge-based Bangladesh that upholds the dignity of labor.
Her remarks came after listening to residents’ concerns in Karail, Bhashantek, and Sattala. “You have shared your problems with us. We will listen, learn, and understand one another so we can find proper solutions and present a beautiful, equitable, knowledge-based country that values labor,” she said at a views-exchange meeting held at the Hatirjheel Amphitheatre.
Organized by the professionals’ wing of BNP’s Dhaka-17 election steering committee, the meeting heard grievances about poor road conditions, inadequate drainage, lack of playgrounds and hospitals, harassment of female workers, traffic congestion, slum rehabilitation, corruption in public transport licensing, and insufficient street lighting.
A cardiologist, Zubaida emphasized BNP’s commitment to merit-based governance, equality, and dignity of labor. “We believe in ‘we’ before ‘me,’ ‘country’ before ‘us,’ and people before power. BNP stands for planned politics and development, equal opportunities for all, and justice before exploitation.”
The program was chaired by Professor Farhad Halim Donar, executive director of the Ziaur Rahman Foundation. BNP Standing Committee member Nazrul Islam Khan and Abdul Salam, chief election agent of BNP’s Dhaka-17 candidate Tarique Rahman, also spoke.
Participants included rickshaw pullers, bus drivers, garment workers, doctors, lawyers, engineers, agriculturists, bankers, and nurses.
A special prayer was offered for the departed soul of late BNP Chairperson and former prime minister Begum Khaleda Zia.
