Barrister Shameem Haider Patwary has been appointed as the new secretary general of the Jatiya Party by the party’s chairman, GM Quader, in place of Mujibul Haque Chunnu.
Khandaker Delwar Jalali, press secretary to the chairman of the party, confirmed the appointment to Bangla Tribune on Monday afternoon.
Notably, the Jatiya Party had been experiencing unrest in recent days over the convening of a praesidium meeting.
Senior Co-Chairman Anisul Islam Mahmud and then-secretary general Mujibul Haque Chunnu had been at odds with the party chairman.
In light of this, GM Quader removed Chunnu from the position of secretary general.
Upon receiving the new responsibility, Shameem sought everyone’s cooperation.
He expressed his intention to reorganize the party with grassroots support.
Shameem also highlighted strengthening the Jatiya Party at the upazila level and reclaiming lost parliamentary seats.
