A Jubo Dal activist was gunned down by unidentified persons in Raozan upazila of Chittagong on Sunday.
The deceased, Md Selim, was a resident of Kadalpur union in the upazila and an activist of the ward No 7 unit of the Jubo Dal.
He was also a follower of BNP Vice Chairman Gias Uddin Quader Chowdhury, a former MP.
According to police and locals, Selim was returning home on a motorcycle with his wife and child around noon when a group of masked individuals, dressed in black burqas, intercepted them near Ishan Pather Haat by blocking the road with a CNG-run autorickshaw.
The attackers fired at Selim from the front before fleeing the scene.
Locals rushed Selim to Raozan Upazila Health Complex, where physicians declared him dead on arrival.
Raozan police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Monirul Islam Bhuiyan said Selim was involved with local BNP politics and had multiple cases filed against him.
“We suspect the murder may be linked to a rivalry over establishing local dominance,” he said, adding that police are investigating the matter.
