Manna: Dialogue needed between two opposing sides

Mahmudur Rahman Manna, the President of Nagorik Oikya, on Friday said that the nation is at a crossroads and emphasized the need for unity to overcome any obstacles.

He urged the two opposing sides to sit for discussions without delay.

Speaking at a memorial meeting held at the Ali Ahmed Chunka Auditorium in Narayanganj, Manna said: “The conflict involves two parties — one led by Mirza Fakhrul and the other by someone else. If they don't sit together, the two sides will eventually confront each other directly.”

He added: “Everyone is present here. I am involved in politics and intend to remain so. In university politics, my opponent was Obaidul Quader. Look at where he was and where I was, and now look at where he is and where I am. He used to say I struggled all my life but achieved nothing. I am Mahmudur Rahman Manna, and he is Obaidul Quader — I won’t elaborate on the latter. I am doing quite well.”

Manna added: “The prime minister used to claim the country was progressing significantly. Even my office peon has become the owner of Tk400 crore. Won’t you ask the prime minister how her peon amassed such wealth?”
