Fakhrul: People will decide who participates in politics and elections

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday said the people of the country will determine who will participate in elections and do politics.

“As a political party, we cannot determine this. There has been a misunderstanding. An adviser claimed that BNP facilitated the Awami League in doing politics, but that is not correct, and we have clarified our stance,” he said.

Fakhrul made these remarks while addressing a program organized to distribute educational materials and corrugated iron sheets to flood-affected people in Sreepur, Feni’s Fulgazi upazila.

He emphasized that there should be no room for misunderstanding, as they have never obstructed any party from participating in elections. “However, those, including Sheikh Hasina, who have killed people, laundered money abroad, and destroyed the country’s assets, must be brought to justice.”

Regarding the interim government, the BNP Secretary General said that it will carry out significant work and has already restored peace and order. “Can Awami League men continue their torture? They should be given some time.”

Once the interim government completes its work, elections will certainly be held, and a government formed by the people will emerge, he added, saying: “We believe it’s better to hold the elections a little sooner.”

Urging party activists to stay united, he said the "bandits" of the Awami League have fled the country, and now it will take efforts to remove the remnants of the damage caused during the AL regime.

Fakhrul also mentioned that efforts are underway to send Khaleda Zia abroad for advanced treatment.
