A Dhaka court has issued a travel ban on Saifuzzaman Shikhor, former Member of Parliament for Magura-1, and his wife, Seema Rahman.
The order was passed by Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mohammed Ash-Shams Joglul Hossain on Tuesday following an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
ACC Assistant Director Md Ismail filed the application, mentioning that the couple is currently under investigation for allegations of abuse of power, various irregularities, and corruption, involving the acquisition of hundreds of crores of taka in their names and the names of their family members.
The application also noted that there are credible reports suggesting the couple might attempt to flee the country. The travel ban was deemed necessary to ensure a fair investigation into the allegations.
