Awami League to hold absentee funeral prayers for 6 killed during protests

The ruling Awami League has announced absentee funeral prayers (gayebana janaza) in memory of Sabuj Ali, an activist of its student wing Chhatra League, and others killed amid ongoing quota reform protests in public service.

Biplab Barua, office secretary of the Awami League, said the funeral prayers would take place at 3pm on Wednesday in front of the party’s central office on Bangabandhu Avenue.

Sabuj Ali was killed during a clash between quota reform protesters and Chhatra League members in front of Dhaka College in the Science Lab area of Dhaka on Tuesday.

At least six people died altogether during the protests that erupted across the country.

Biplab mentioned that the prayers would also pay tribute to those killed allegedly by armed men of the BNP-Jamaat alliance during the unrest.
