A youth killed during a clash between students demanding quota reform and members of the Chhatra League near Dhaka College has been identified as a Chhatra League activist from the college.
The deceased had been Sabuj Ali, a student of the statistics department from the 2018-19 session at Dhaka College, New Market police station Sub-Inspector Mahabub Ali told Dhaka Tribune on Wednesday.
Riaz Mahmud, president of the Dhaka north Chhatra League unit, posted a photo of the deceased Sabuj Ali on Facebook saying a dedicated worker of Dhaka College Chhatra League had been “killed at the hands of quota reform protesters."
Sabuj resided in room 205 of North Hall. His family hails from Nilphamari.
At around 5pm on Tuesday, two pedestrians brought an injured youth to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
He was later declared dead by doctors after examination.
His identity was initially unknown but was later confirmed by the Crime Scene Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department.
The ruling Awami League, whose student wing is the Chhatra League, announced that it would hold an absentee funeral prayer for Sabuj Ali, killed in an attack by “armed men of the BNP and Jamaat” at 3pm in front of its central office on Bangabandhu Avenue in Dhaka.
Another deceased was identified as Shahjahan, 25, from Kamrangirchar, Dhaka. He was a street vendor.
After being injured, he was taken to Popular Hospital, where doctors declared him dead, Inspector Md Bacchu Mia, the person in charge of Dhaka Medical College Hospital police outpost, confirmed.
