Quader: Awami League has not thought about moving to get BNP banned

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has said his party has not deliberated on making any moves to get the BNP banned despite its categorization as a “terrorist group” by different organizations.

“There are some court issues. We need to follow the law,” Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, told a press conference held at the Awami League president's political office in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi on Thursday.

“The Federal Court of Canada has identified BNP as a terrorist group. America’s Homeland Security has banned Tarique’s entry into the country.”

Regarding BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s bail, the minister said: “The court granted him bail. It does not mean that he has not committed the crime. The trial will continue.”

He said the BNP proved itself to be a dummy opponent by not participating in the general election.
