The Awami League has sought permission from the Dhaka divisional commissioner, also the returning officer of the area, to hold a rally to mark Victory Day on Saturday.
The letter, signed by Dhaka South Awami League Office Secretary Riaz Uddin Riaz, was sent on Friday.
The program would begin at 2pm at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh in Ramna and end at Dhanmondi 32.
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, would be the chief guest at the rally, which would also include central leaders of the party, cabinet members, members of parliament, and leaders and activists of affiliate organizations, among others.
Notably, in the lead-up to the 12th general election, the Ministry of Home Affairs has issued a letter to law enforcement agencies and others concerned, saying no political meeting, rally, or any type of program of any party will be allowed starting Saturday till the end of polling.
A notification in this regard has been issued by the Public Security Department of the Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday.
