Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is not only a person but also an ideology and light of his ideology has been transferred from generation to generation.
Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique came up with the observation while addressing a programme of a drawing competition at Fine Arts Faculty thursday.
The Fine Arts Faculty organised the event marking the National Mourning Day, the 38th martyrdom anniversary of father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Artist Jamal Chowdhury inaugurated the programme.
Arefin Siddique also said though person Sheikh Mujub was killed, it is not possible to kill his ideology.
Addressing the function, Awami League Presidium Member Mohammad Nasim said, “A stigmatized era started in nation’s life through the murder of Bangabandhu and his family. It was removed a little beat through the leadership of Sheikh Hasina.”
With Bangladesh Chhatra League President Badiuzzaman Sohag in the chair, the programme was also addressed, among others, by Fine Arts Faculty Dean Abul Barak Alvi and teacher Dulal Gain.
Bangla Academy also observed the National Mourning Day marking the 38th anniversary of the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Academy staff paid tributes to the Father of the Nation BangabandhuSheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing wreaths at his portrait at Bangabandhu Bhaban at Dhanmondi Road 32 in the morning.
Bangla Academy organised a lecture session and a cultural function at its Abdul Karim Sahittyabisharat auditorium in the capital at 4 pm.
Eminent historian Prof Syed Anwar Hossain delivered his lecture on Bangladesh and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the function.
Bangla Academy president Professor Emeritus Anisuzzaman and its Director General Shamsuzzaman Khan also spoke on the occasion.
Prof Anwar Hossain said the stance of the assailants of August 15 was against the country’s history because Bangladesh’s history means Bangabandhu.
Professor Emeritus Anisuzzaman said Bangabandhu had to face an adverse situation after the country’s independence as all of his companions became busy to protect their own interest rather than serving the country.
