The armed cadres of the BNP attempted to create chaos by ambushing the pre-arranged peace rally of the Awami League, General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said.
He condemned and protested against the attack and anarchy by the BNP in various parts of the country, in the name of a march program in a statement sent to the media on Saturday night.
“In the name of democracy, BNP will no longer be given the opportunity to kill innocent people by arson attacks like in 2013, 2014 and 2015,” the statement reads.
“Internationally recognized criminal group BNP has indulged in terrorism, sabotage, and anarchy as always in the name of democracy and political agenda. The armed cadres of BNP have created terror in different places of the country including Sirajganj, Jamalpur, Manikganj, Narayanganj, and Jessore today (Saturday) in the name of a marching program,” he said in the statement.
“BNP, born at the hand of military dictator Ziaur Rahman, who seized state power on gun barrel through killings, coup, terrorism, and conspiracy, is the main impediment to the country's democratic progression. BNP is an organization of autocratic ideology that always nurtures and patronizes killings, conspiracy, extremism, communalism, militancy, and terrorism,” he said.
By launching attacks in different parts of the country, BNP again revealed its terrorist character, he added.
The Awami League general secretary mentioned that a Canadian court earlier described BNP as a “terrorist organization”.
There is no room for anti-liberation forces, extremism, terrorism, and militancy in the country, he said.
Quader said Awami League, along with the peace-loving people of Bangladesh, will stay active on the streets to build robust resistance against the “arson terrorists”.
