Awami League Presidium Member Abdur Rahman on Friday said the BNP is bringing forth unconstitutional and undemocratic demands to falsify the upcoming parliamentary elections.
He made the remarks during an exchange of views with journalists during his visit to the prime minister's rally ground in Rajshahi on Sunday.
Party's presidium members Abdur Rahman and Jahangir Kabir Nanak also spoke with the party's central and local leaders at noon.
In response to reporters' questions, Abdur Rahman said that the caretaker government demand is to empower the unconstitutional and apolitical forces. With that power comes the question of their sharing.
“The BNP has never won an election [in a fair manner]. In 1991, they came to power through rigging and again in 2001 after signing a bond to sell gas.”
He also said: “We think that people's votes will not elect the BNP in any fair election. Hence, such unconstitutional and undemocratic demands are raised to falsify this election. The people of this country are not paying attention to their demands. The election will be held under the Election Commission and it will be fair and free.”
Nanak said the BNP was born to erase history and hide the truth. “They have tried to distort the history of Bangladesh and erase the name of Father of Nation Bangabandhu. They also wiped out the Freedom Fighters.”
He said the BNP leaders and activists will also join the prime minister's rally in Rajshahi.
Awami League Organizing Secretary SM Kamal Hossain, and central committee members Nurul Islam Thandu, Akhtar Jahan and others were present at this time.
