The Awami League has invited BNP leaders to its 22nd national council, which will be held on Saturday.
A delegation led by Awami League Deputy Office Secretary Sayem Khan visited the BNP's central office at Naya Paltan in Dhaka on Friday to extend the invitation.
Among the invitees are BNP standing committee members Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan and Nazrul Islam Khan.
BNP Organizing Secretary Syed Emran Saleh received the invitation letter.
Syed Emran Saleh asked the Awami League delegation how BNP leaders can attend the event when most of them are in jail.
Sayem Khan in response said: “We have come here on behalf of our party. We hope a BNP delegation will attend the council.”
Saleh said the party leadership will discuss the issue and make a decision.
