Murad seeks forgiveness from PM Hasina, hopes to return to Awami League politics

Former state minister for information and broadcasting and lawmaker Dr Murad Hassan has sought forgiveness from Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, hoping to make a return to party politics.

The MP's personal secretary Jahid Nayeem said an application was submitted to the party's Dhanmondi office on Thursday.

It may be recalled that Murad resigned as state minister for information and broadcasting in December last year after the prime minister asked him to, over his derogatory remarks on women. Jamalpur Awami League also relieved Murad Hassan of his post of health and population affairs secretary of the party's district unit.

Murad in the application swore “as the son of a freedom fighter” that he would not do anything that would bring dishonour to Sheikh Hasina, requesting the Awami League president to allow him to join party activities.

Copied in were Awami League Join General Secretary Dr Dipu Moni and Organizing Secretary Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel.

Murad told reporters that he had sought the prime minister's forgiveness and hoped she would be forgiving.

Nadel said he had not received the application yet, adding that the central committee would discuss the issue and make a decision.
