Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has thanked the Jatiya Party for supporting parliamentary democracy in a meeting with JaPa Chairman GM Quader and the party's chief patron, Opposition Leader Raushon Ershad.
The JaPa leaders paid a courtesy call on the prime minister at the latter's official residence, Ganabhaban, on Tuesday afternoon. Rahgir Almahe Ershad, the lawmaker from Rangpur-3 and son of JaPa founder HM Ershad, was also present in the meeting.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina asked Raushon Ershad, who recently returned home after receiving treatment in a Bangkok hospital for five months, about her health and exchanged pleasantries.
Sheikh Hasina, also president of the ruling Awami League, thanked JaPa for playing a constructive and positive role in supporting parliamentary democracy. Besides, the prime minister discussed the role of opposition parties in strengthening democracy and government in any country across the world.
The leaders of the Jatiya Party said a stable democratic system was effective in independent Bangladesh today after many setbacks.
They added that their party was is determined to continue to support the democratic system and constitutional government and would play an effective role as the main opposition party both in parliament and outside it.
