Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said that the resignation of BNP MPs from parliament was barely like a tickle for the government.
“BNP thinks that the base of the government will be shaken if they resign from the parliament,” he said.
The minister said the secretariat of the parliament has issued a notification declaring the seats vacant on the day of their resignation. By-elections will be held there and now BNP will realize what mistakes they have made, he added.
Hasan said this while addressing the triennial conference of Awami League Chittagong South district unit at Jimnesiam Ground in the port city.
The conference was presided over by Chittagong South district Awami League President Moslem Uddin Ahmed and conducted by General Secretary Mofizur Rahman. Awami League presidium member Mosharraf Hossain inaugurated the conference.
Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader virtually attended the conference as chief guest. The main speaker was Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif.
Hasan Mahmud said: "While pushing the Awami League, the BNP has knocked down itself. Awami League is standing on such a solid foundation that if somebody pushed on it, they will collapse.”
He said: "The BNP has stated that it will bring the government down. The country will be led by Khaleda Zia beginning on October 10. They came to bring down the government, but they brought themselves down. They resigned from parliament when they came to ask for the resignation of the government.”
Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif said: "BNP stated their one-point demand on December 10. And during the rally, they made ten-point demands. I carefully read their demands and there was nothing new.”
He said the World Human Rights Day is on December 10. On the other hand, BNP has organized the rally on that day after many calculations, he added.
The minister said 15 unexploded cocktails, 2,00,000 bottles of water, 160 bags of rice and cash Tk2 lakh were recovered from their party office. In fact, BNP has declared to hold rally in Naya Paltan to carry out violence.
