The BNP has alleged that its party men are being arrested and their families harassed in order to disrupt the party's divisional rally in Faridpur on Saturday.
BNP Vice Chairman Dr AZM Zahid Hossain alleged that eight party men were picked up by law enforcers from Nagarkanda area and another from Faridpur.
He, however, said that BNP activists and workers will start arriving in the city two days ahead of the program just so that they are a day ahead of a transport strike called by the mini bus owners' association in the division.
The transport strike will be in place from Friday 6am to Saturday 6pm.
Party leaders said that they are well aware of conspiracies to foil the BNP's ongoing anti-government movement and insisted that their Faridpur rally will be a success.
Meanwhile, the party has already erected a temporary stage at the venue – Abdul Aziz Institute ground. The surrounding area has been decorated with banners and festoons.
Earlier, the local administration gave permission to the BNP to hold its Faridpur divisional rally at Abdul Aziz Institute, 6km away from the city and adjacent to the Dhaka-Khulna highway.
The BNP had wanted to hold its rally at Rajendra College field in Faridpur city, but the administration did not accept the proposal.
