The Awami League will stay in power for as long as the people want it to, party Joint General Secretary and lawmaker Md Mahbubul Alam Hanif has said.
The senior Awami League leader was speaking at an event in Kushtia on Tuesday.
Referring to BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s remark that the Awami League government had ended the caretaker government system to stay in power till 2041, Hanif said Sheikh Hasina should hold office till that year if Bangladesh was to become a developed nation.
The Awami League would once again assume power through the next general election, he said, adding that his party was not one to become anxious seeing other organization’s powers.
