No paper ballot will be used in the upcoming newly formed Kaliganj municipality election which was scheduled to the held on June 20.
Election Commission will use electronic voting machines at all poll centres instead of paper ballot.
As a rehearsal of the polls, a mock voting was held in 15 centres under nine words on Saturday. A good number of voters took part in the session which started at 8am and continued till 4pm.
Md Kamrul Ahsan Talukder, returning officer of Kaliganj municipality election, said before conducting the mock EVM voting, a total of 255 election officials including, 15 presiding and 80 assistant presiding officers, and 160 polling agents participated in the training that was held at Kaliganj RRN Pilot Government High School on Thursday and Friday.
Khondkar Mizanur Rahman, director general of Electoral Training Institute, Abul Kalam Mollah, director (administration) were also present on the occasion.
Khondkar Mizanur Rahman told Dhaka Tribune that EC would use EVM at all the polling centres in the election. Fear and anxiety about EVM would be wiped out after the mock voting, he hoped.
The EC already started campaigns with loudspeakers about the use of EVM by distributing leaflets and posters.
Campaign regarding voting by EVM will continue till the last day of election campaign, Returning Officer Md Kamrul Ahsan Talukder said.
He said mock voting will be held today (Sunday) in word No 1,2 and 3, on Monday in word No 4,5 and 6 on Tuesday in word No 7,8 and 9,and on Wednesday.
Asma Begum and Rahima Khatun, who came to Moslin Cotton Mills centre to take part in mock voting, said it is a new system but very easy.
Saiful Islam who came to Baligoan centre, said it will take shorter time to caste vote with EVM.
Jashim Uddin , a counselor candidate of 3 no ward, observed that the system was fine, time effective and will relief the voters from anarchy to wait in a long trail at the voting centre.
But it is necessary to make voters aware about the voting system, he opined.
Kaliganj municipality has 15 voting centres with 80 voting rooms for casting vote. There are a total of 30,496 voters. Among them - 15,801 are male and 15,095 female.
