Quader questions Fakhrul’s silence on BNP leader’s death threat against PM

BNP Secretary General is maintaining total radio silence over a death threat made against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina by a leader of the party in Rajshahi, even though many, including the US embassy in Dhaka, have condemned it, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has said.

Quader, who is also the road transport and bridges minister, asked whether the BNP actually wanted to implement its one-point demand of killing the prime minister, in response to questions from reporters after an event in Tejgaon, Dhaka, on Wednesday.

The Awami Leauge leader said his party would hold peaceful programs until the next general election but would stand up to anyone trying to thwart the polls.

Rajshahi BNP Convener Abu Sayeed Chand on Friday afternoon said: “No more 27- or 10-point demands, just one point now – send Sheikh Hasina to the grave. We will do whatever is necessary to get Sheikh Hasina to resign.”

Footage of his comment went viral on social media, leading to an uproar and drawing condemnations.

The BNP leader has also been sued in several cases in this connection.

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Tuesday said the party or its leaders and activists did not want to take anyone's life or hurt anyone in any way, adding that they only wanter Sheikh Hasina's “regime” to end.
