Ershad: JaPa not a domestic opposition

Jatiya Party (JaPa) chief HM Ershad on Tuesday remarked that JaPa is not a domestic opposition but a front row party in the political arena. He made the comments during a party meeting at a Gulshan restaurant in Dhaka. Ershad said: “The last three years, we have supported the government in all sectors and for that reason people were thinking that we are a domestic opposition. “Now, we have parted our ways with the government and formed Moha Oikkya Jote. People of the country have started to rethink about us again. “I can now confidently say that we (JaPa) are not a domestic opposition.” During the meeting, the former autocrat also remarked that the Jatiya Party has a high chance of winning the next election and come to power. “We are preparing for that and counting down the days,” he said. “Without the participation of our party, the country will not hold any elections,” he added. Ershad, in reply to questions from reporters, said flash floods in Sylhet and the recent Rangamati landslide were curses from Allah.
