Ducsu VP Nur files GD seeking security

Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) Vice-President (VP) Nurul Haque Nur has lodged a general diary (GD) as he received a death threat through text messages.

Nur filed the GD on Wednesday seeking security against unidentified people.

The GD copy obtained by Dhaka Tribune states that over 40 leaders of Nur’s political platform Bangladesh Student Rights Council which spearheaded the quota reformation movement 2018, received the same threat.

Nur received a total of three texts in his two cell phone numbers, it added.

Nur claimed that he had received threats since his announcement to form a new political platform, which aims to contest the next general election.

The text messages that Nur received, written in Bangla, also contain vulgar remarks about him and his family.

Nur claimed that he was fearful for his life and sought security from the law enforcement agency.

Since the quota reform protest started in April 2018, Nur had been attacked at least eleven times, he mentioned in the GD.

He reportedly claimed that the activists of different associate bodies of the ruling party Awami League carried out these attacks.

Roich Hossain, sub-inspector of Shahbagh police station acknowledged receiving Nur’s complaint and said after scrutinizing the call list the law enforcement agency would find out who was behind this.
