Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) Vice-President (VP) Nurul Haque Nur has announced that he and his quota reformation platform, through forming sector-based political forums comprising youths, will establish politics of a new dimension.
He made the announcement on Tuesday in a video posted on his Facebook account.
He said: “I am not involved in the politics of the Awami League or the BNP and neither will I be in future. We are rather working to establish new dimensional politics in the country.”
To achieve this goal, Nur and his platform Bangladesh Students’ Rights Council, prominently known as Bangladesh General Students’ Rights Protection Council, which spearheaded the quota reforms movement on government jobs in 2018, have been working towards establishing other forums.
“Youth Council, Workers Council and Expatriates Council have been set up so far, besides our student platform attaching priority to the young generation,” he said.
VP Nur added: “There is nothing to hide here. We want to create a positive political environment with youths in the forefront. We will work together by coordinating with all of our other platforms.”
There is no need for huge money here but rather dedication is necessary, Nur stated.
After 28 years of being in limbo, Ducsu saw Nurul Haque Nur – one of the key leaders of the quota reforms movement – elected as VP in 2019.
The election held on March 11 was allegedly marred by irregularities on the part of the university authorities and vote-rigging by the Bangladesh Chhatra League – the student wing of the ruling Awami League. The BCL ended up gaining a majority with 24 posts.
