PM to Abrar's family: Directives given for quick disposal of case

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said she has already directed the law minister to quickly dispose of the Buet student Abrar Fahad killing case.

The prime minister said this when family members of Abrar Fahad, who was killed in a dormitory of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) on October 7, met her at Ganabhaban in Dhaka on Monday afternoon.

They included Abrar’s father Barkatullah, mother Rokeya Khatun, and brother Abrar Faiyaz Sabbir, paternal uncle and maternal uncle, reports BSS.

After the meeting, PM's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed reporters.

He said Abrar's mother Rokeya Khatun expressed profound gratitude to the prime minister for taking prompt steps after the killing of her son.

"I have no language to express gratitude for the motherly role you played after the incident," she said.

The press secretary said Abrar's mother made this comment for eight to 10 times.

The prime minister said she quickly directed the law enforcers to arrest the killers of Abrar.

"The killers are killers and criminals are criminals … I did not see who belonged to which party," she said.

Abrar, a second year student of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department of the university, was tortured to death inside the university’s Sher-e-Bangla Hall in the early hours of October 7.

Some Chhatra League leaders of the organization's Buet chapter have been accused of beating him to death for his alleged involvement with Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami.

Abrar's father filed a murder case against 19 people at Chawkbazar police station on Monday evening.
