Fakhrul: Victory is certain if we participate in free and fair election

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has made claims that their victory is certain if the government and the Election Commission do not create obstructions for them.

Fakhrul made the remark after a Jatiya Oikya Front meeting at Dr Kamal Hossain's Motijheel chamber Sunday noon.

The BNP leader said: “We are trying to stay in the polls till the end. So far, this election has not been able to achieve any credibility of being free and fair, which is something we are going to say repeatedly. We have continued the election process as we want to participate in the election.”

He further claimed: “The election will only be acceptable when there is a level playing field. However, by the conduct of the Election Commission and the government it is clear that they have no interest to make this election free and fair. They are still arresting our leaders and potential candidates and sending them to jail.”

He said BNP senior leaders have been kept in custody. “The selection process for nomination has ended. In the last four days, the 20-party and Jatiya Oikya Front candidates have been interviewed. Therefore only the finalization procedure remains,” he added.

“Hopefully I will come to a consensus,” Fakhrul said.

“We will submit the nomination within November 28 to the Election Commission,” he added.
