Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina will hold a press conference about the outcome of the dialogues with other parties.
“The press conference will be held after the talks either on November 8 or 9. Our party chief will discuss the outcome of the dialogues at the briefing,” Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader told reporters, at the Secretariat, on Monday.
Obaidul said they are ready for the upcoming general election. “We will prevent all attempts to foil the election.”
He said they have already met several demands of the Dr Kamal Hossain-led Jatiya Oikya Front and AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury led-Jukta Front.
“They wanted foreign observers during the election and we have agreed to that. But the Election Commission will decide, as the government has no authority to do so,” he said.
He said they are also ready to ensure a level playing field for all parties.
Obaidul, also the road, transport and bridges minister, said the prime minister and other ministers will not enjoy any advantages during the election period.
“They will not display the national flag on their cars. The prime minister will only use the party flag,” he said. “This is one of the major examples of level playing field.”
The Awami League leader said: “In India and England parliaments are not dissolved during elections. Then why should it be any different in Bangladesh?”
Obaidul said parliament will be inactive during the election and lawmakers will not have any power.
Dialogues with political parties
The ruling Awami League-led grand alliance decided to sit with the parties in an effort to resolve the present political crisis and ensure a peaceful parliamentary election.
On November 1, Prime Minister and Awami League Chief Sheikh Hasina, members of her party, and the Grand Alliance held a dialogue with Jatiya Oikya Front, a newly-formed political alliance, of which BNP is a key member.
On November 2, she held talks with Jukta Front.
She will meet with opposition in parliament Jatiya Party on Monday and the Left Democratic Alliance on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, the prime minister will hold another round of talks with Jatiya Oikya Front as per their request.
