PM: Re-elect AL for continuation of development

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday hoped that the people of the country will re-elect the Awami League in the next election for the continuation of development.

"In the next election, people will surely vote for the boat, InshaAllah...we seek votes for the boat so that they re-elect us to complete the unfinished development projects," she said.

The Prime Minister came up with the remarks while inaugurating the extended building of National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedic Rehabilitation (Nitor) at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the city, reports UNB.

Sheikh Hasina said if the Awami League is not re-elected in the next election, all the unfinished development projects would face the same fate of community clinics.

"Returning to power in 2001, the BNP-Jamaat alliance had shut down all the community clinics although the clinics were providing excellent services to the masses," she said.

She mentioned that many development projects taken by the 1996-2001 Awami League government were closed down by the BNP-Jamaat regime and the Awami League government completed them after assuming office in 2009.

Emphasizing on the continuation of the government for the sake of the country's development, Hasina said Bangladesh has gained momentum through numerous development projects during the tenure of the present government which needs to be maintained.

"The people of the country will get their desired services and welfare of the people will be ensured," the Prime Minister said.

Stressing the importance of modernizing medicare services, Hasina described the various development projects taken by her government to upgrade the country's health sector.

"It is our responsibility to serve people and we will provide a beautiful prosperous life for them."

Hasina emphasized the need for a developed hospital waste management system and mentioned that the government is taking various steps to this end.

She said the government has resumed the community clinic services and around 18,000 community clinics and union healthcare centres are currently in operation, providing 30 types of free medicines to patients.

Hasina said that the introduction of free healthcare services on cellular phone and the telemedicine to the hospital have gained huge popularity.

Talking about the development of medicare services, she said 16 new government and five new army medical colleges have been set up since 2009.

"We will establish one medical university in each of the divisional headquarters."

The Prime Minister said 362 new posts for orthopedics have been created in Nitor and other medical colleges.

Chaired by Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim, the inaugural function was also addressed by Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Ministry Zahid Maleque, Nitor Director Prof M Abdul Gani Mollah and Health Services Division Secretary Md Serajul Huq Khan.
