Hasina vows to realise Bangabandhu's dream

Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has pledged that her party and her government will realise the dream of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

She made the vow while addressing a rally organised by ruling Awami League to mark the 45th anniversary of the historic speech of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman delivered in 1971.

Terming the historic speech of Father of the Nation a complete plan for creating an independent state, Sheikh Hasina said: "We will move forward with the spirit that Bangabandhu had dreamt of. Today, we are taking the vow to fulfil the dream of Bangabandhu."

She said Bangabandhu had directed for guerilla war in his speech and inspired the nation in phases to take preparation for independence.

She said Bangabandhu had to serve jail for several times but he never compromised with his principles.

Stating that the historic speech of Bangabandhu was banned from 1975 to 1996, Hasina said: "However, the speech has achieved international recognition."

She also said the historic speech has so far been translated into 12 languages.

"People had been listening to Bangabandhu's speech for last 45 years and they also got inspired by the spirit of independence," Hasina went on.

She further said: "But the situation changed after the brutal killing of Bangabandhu in 1975. Ziaur Rahman had captured power illegally and then released the war criminals from prison.

"What can we expect from a party which was formed in such political background?"

Terming BNP's election for its chairperson and vice-chairman posts a drama, Hasina said: "The party has re-elected two accused in the top posts."

On this day in 1971, Bangabandhu delivered the speech at the Race Course Maidan where he fervently called people: “The struggle this time is for our emancipation, the struggle this time is for our independence.”
